Preflop Strategy

As a basic rule you should only play strong hands preflop. Pre Flop

Before any Poker Stars cards are dealt, two players must post the small blind and big blind. The small blind is posted by the player directly to the left of the dealer, followed by the big blind, which is the player directly to the left of the small blind.

Once both Big Blind and Small Blind have been posted, then the dealer will deal 4 cards face down to all the players at the table. These are known as the hole cards.

Flop

Showdown

This is where the biggest difference between Omaha and Texas Holdem occurs. In holdem, players only are dealt 2 cards and have to make the best possible hand from the 5 community cards and the 2 hole cards. However, in Omaha players have 4 cards in their hand and 5 community cards to use. The player must use exactly 2 cards in his hand and 3 from the community cards.

Once the player has decided on his best possible hand from 2 cards in his hand and 3 on the board, he then has a showdown with all remaining players in the pot. The winner is the player with the best hand, and he collects the pot.

In the early rounds of a seven-card stud tournament, my experience has that’s it very hard to shake people early in the hands. Since there’s no real division of the hand (pre-flop vs. post-flop), it extends the period where players of all skill levels feel they can still hit their draw card to make a hand. Forced Bets

Before the cards are dealt out to the players the two players left of the dealer button need to put out forced bets known as the big blind and the small blind. The dealer button moves one spot clockwise every hand so that everyone needs to pay the blinds evenly throughout a session.

Pre-Flop

There is one last round of betting that takes place after the river as well and once everyone has either called the bets or folded the hand will go to a showdown. If there is more then one player left in the hand after the last round of betting then the players left in the pot will flip there cards over. This is known as the showdown and the goal is to see who won the pot.
